CALGARY - Bo Levi Mitchell used his legs to get things started and then relied on his arm to lead the Calgary Stampeders to a bounce-back victory. Emmanuel Lamur Raiders Jersey . Mitchell ran for an eight-yard touchdown in the first quarter and then threw for three more TDs in the second as the Stamps cruised to a convincing 38-17 win over the expansion Ottawa Redblacks in Saturdays lone CFL game. "It felt good to get out there and put some points on the board," Mitchell said. "It should have been a lot more, 28 points in the first half and then some missed opportunities in the second half." After suffering his first loss as a starting quarterback in Calgarys 25-24 loss to the B.C. Lions on Aug. 1 at home, Mitchell rebounded to complete 26-of-36 passes for 289 yards against the Redblacks. "Bo played well," said Calgary coach and general manager John Hufnagel. "Im sure theres some throws that he wished he had back, but he played 60 minutes of good football and put some points on the board." Jeff Fuller, Marquay McDaniel and Jabari Arthur all caught TD passes for the Stamps (5-1), who moved into a tie with the Edmonton Eskimos atop the CFL West Division standings. "It was good to get going especially on offence," said McDaniel, who finished with nine catches for 117 yards. "We havent been consistent the last few weeks. That was our main focus. As a receiving corps, we feel like its on us to get this offence going." Rene Paredes chipped in with a three field goals, while Rob Maver kicked a single. Former Calgary quarterback Henry Burris threw a touchdown pass to Wallace Miles, while Chevron Walker had a rushing TD for the Redblacks (1-5). Ottawa kicker Brett Maher also had a field goal in the fourth quarter when the score was out of reach. "Im choosing to not consider ourselves like an expansion team," said Ottawa coach Rick Campbell. "I want to win. I think we have some pieces of the puzzle in place here to compete and win some games. Were going to do everything we can to play good guys and put them in the best position we can to have success." Burris, who went 20-for-29 for 281 yards, also threw a pair of interceptions in a losing cause. "Im just ready to start winning period," Burris said. "This would have been a big win especially on the road. Calgary gave us some opportunities. Winning teams take advantage of opportunities. We just found other ways to shoot ourselves in the foot and make it tough on ourselves." The Stamps started their second drive of the game with great field position at the Ottawa 41-yard line thanks to a 52-yard punt return by Jock Sanders. Six plays later, Paredes lined up to kick a 15-yard field goal, but Calgary executed a perfect trick play as Mitchell instead lined up under centre and took a quick snap before running for an eight-yard touchdown. "Its the kind of coaching staff we have," Mitchell said. "Theyre a go-get-it team. They definitely wanted to say, Hey were on our first drive, lets go get some momentum. The guys made some great blocks, got the hole open for me and we got in." Early in the second quarter, the Stamps extended their lead to 14-0 when Mitchell tossed a 17-yard TD strike to Fuller to cap off a quick four-play, 44-yard drive. The early onslaught continued as defensive back Jamar Wall picked off an errant pass by Burris at midfield to end Ottawas best first-half drive to that point. "Its always nice to have an interception," Wall said. "That was my first one this year. Im pretty excited. Hopefully theres more to come." Nine plays and 60 yards later, McDaniel caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to give Calgary a commanding 21-0 lead. The Redblacks earned a measure of redemption when Jasper Simmons intercepted a pass by Mitchell and ran it back 29 yards deep into Calgary territory. On the next play, Calgary linebacker Keon Raymond was penalized for pass interference on Ottawa receiver Carlton Mitchell as well as objectionable conduct to give Ottawa the ball on the one-yard line. Walker promptly plunged across the goal line to get the Redblacks on the scoreboard. The Stamps answered right back as Anthony Parker returned the kickoff 44 yards before Mitchell engineered a five-play, 51-yard drive that culminated with a 17-yard TD pass to Arthur. The offensive woes for the Redblacks continued early in the third quarter as Burris was picked off by Calgary defensive back Joshua Bell, who ran it back 43 yards to the Ottawa 12-yard line. This time, the Stamps were unable to find the end zone and had to settle for a 12-yard field goal by Paredes. Late in the third quarter, Burris capped off an eight-play, 75-yard drive by tossing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Miles before Maver booted a 53-yard punt single to put Calgary up 32-14. After Maher kicked a 32-yard field goal for Ottawa early in the fourth quarter, Paredes responded by booting field goals from 40 and 30 yards out respectively to round out the scoring. Notes: Calgarys Martell Mallett left the game late in the second quarter with a leg muscle injury and didnt return. The Stamps are already without the services of fellow running backs Jon Cornish and Matt Walker, who are both out with concussions. … Since the start of the 2008 campaign, Calgary has compiled a record of 26-6-1 the week after a loss. The Stamps have never lost more than two games in a row with John Hufnagel serving as coach and general manager. … Calgary defensive lineman Charleston Hughes extended his streak of consecutive games with a sack to six. … The announced attendance at McMahon Stadium was 28,391 although it appeared as though considerably fewer fans were in the stands. Arden Key Jersey . The Thornhill, Ont., native, who is ranked 11th in the world, said hed hoped he would be ready when Canada begins its World Group first-round tie against Japan in Tokyo on Friday. Daryl Worley Raiders Jersey . Some will say that Martin is too sensitive while others will say that it is part of the way football is in the locker room. But to have to absorb what was said to him for any rational and intelligent person is too much. http://www.theraidersfansclub.com/Black-Arden-Key-Raiders-Jersey.html?cat=9… . - The Mavericks built a 12-point lead with 2:50 to play, gave away all but two points of it, and still managed to hang on.PHILADELPHIA -- Motivated by a lopsided loss to the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Philadelphia Flyers ignored fatigue and rebounded nicely. Michael Raffl and Claude Giroux scored goals, Steve Mason made 20 saves, and the Flyers beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 on Thursday night. Jakub Voracek had two assists, and Giroux also had an assist to help the Flyers snap a three-game losing streak and extend their home winning streak to six games. They were coming off a 2-3-1 trip in which they finished 0-2-1, including a 7-2 loss at Chicago on Wednesday night. "Its good to see we can put things behind us and move on," Giroux said. "Guys were pretty excited to play home again. Our fans give us a boost. That was one of our best 60-minute performances." Mason shut out the Canadiens for 59 minutes before Alex Galchenyuk scored with 55.1 seconds left to cut it to 2-1. The Canadiens have lost two in a row after going 9-0-1. They followed a 6-0 loss at home to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday with another offensive clunker. "We were definitely slow in the first," captain Brian Gionta said. "Its tough when you start late to try and get back into the game. We made a good push, but it was just a little too late." The Flyers didnt show any ill effects from a 13-day trip. Despite playing three games in four nights, they looked fresh from the start. "I was happy with the way we skated," coach Craig Berube said. "You never know after a long trip how youre going to be. They were ready to go. I think theres a lot of character in the room. They werent happy about the loss in Chicago because they wanted to show they can play with that team." Raffl gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead in the first period with his second NHL goal. Voracek set it up with a perfect pass from behind the net to Raffl in the slot. He wriisted a shot over goalie Carey Prices glove into the top corner. Dwayne Harris Jersey. Raffl didnt score in his first 17 games, but has two goals in three games this week. "I know when he has the puck, hes going to protect it and find me. I just have to be open," Raffl said of Voracek. Another crisp pass from Voracek set up Philadelphias second goal. Brayden Schenn took the puck up the middle, and he passed it to Voracek skating down the left side. Voracek sent a crossing pass to Giroux coming down the right wing, and he beat Price with a slap shot. Danny Briere, a fan favourite during six seasons with the Flyers, returned to Philadelphia for the first time since his contract was bought out last July. Briere got a standing ovation during a video tribute in the first period and he waved to the crowd from the bench. "It was weird playing against Danny," Giroux said. "Me and Danny are pretty close. We lived together. Hes one of my good friends. But on the ice, its a different story." The Canadiens had a goal disallowed in the third period because Gionta pushed it in with his hand while sliding headfirst into the crease. "I am very disappointed. Disappointing performance, honestly," Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said. "I thought especially with the game we played at home, I thought we were going to be on fire, and I am disappointed." NOTES: Mason had 10 shutouts for Columbus when he was the NHLs top rookie in the 2008-09 season, and 10 more in the last five seasons. ... The Flyers scored first for the fourth game in a row.
